Dr. Kotikian is a dual-degree oral and maxillofacial surgeon, meaning he completed both dental school and medical school. He earned his dental degree from University of California, Los Angeles before completing a one-year Hospital Dentistry Residency at the Long Beach Veterans Administration Hospital, where he treated medically complex patients.

Following his residency at the Long Beach VA, Dr. Kotikian moved to Michigan, where he earned his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He then completed two years of general surgery training and finished his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Dr. Kotikian is a board-certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who specializes in oral and maxillofacial trauma, infections, oral pathology resection and reconstruction, the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (both surgical and non-surgical), and craniofacial anomalies, including orthognathic (corrective jaw) surgery.

In the clinical setting, he routinely performs IV sedation for complex procedures, including impacted wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement, bone grafting, and tumor excisions.

Dr. Kotikian is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and the Southern California Orofacial Academy. He frequently lectures on subjects related to his field at both the local and national levels.

Dr. Kotikian has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Glendale News-Press, and many other local publications for his work in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has also been featured on CNN Headline News Local Edition and on the ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer.
